Our Mission, History, & Leadership

WHO WE ARE

In 1993, Alfreda Cunningham of Winter Haven, FL, secured the interest of other women of color to explore the feasibility of forming a local NCBW chapter in Polk County. The Polk County Chapter began its successful journey to becoming an NCBW Chapter. In July 1997, the interest group adopted its By-laws and elected its founding officers.

Upon seeking confirmation of the procedures for establishing a local chapter, the National office assigned Ethel Isaacs, Esq. as Chapter Development Director for this interest group. During her visit on May 2, 1998, Ms. Isaacs provided additional information and guidance through the completion of the application process to form a local chapter in Polk County, Florida.

On June 13, 1998, the Polk County Chapter adopted its By-Laws and elected its chartering officers. National President Lydia Mallet installed the chapter, which led to an official Chapter designation of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. on November 13, 1998.
